Jack Daniel's Picnic - 7/4/11

The Nashville Section was Hosted by Luxury Imports of Bowling Green

The Nashville Section was hosted by Luxury Imports of Bowling Green to a brunch and tour of the recently refurbished dealership. Thanks to member Chuck Johnson for a first class presentation of the Mercedes-Benz CPO program. A special attraction a 1955 300SL Gullwing, added to the celebration of 125 years of Mercedes-Benz automobiles. We had a group photo with this beautiful Gullwing!

We left Luxury Imports and then took a tour of the National Corvette Museum just a couple of exits further north on I-65. We enjoyed lunch at the "Corvette Cafe" at the museum before the self- guided tour. The Corvette Museum has been expanded and is a "must see" when you are in the area.

Nashville Section Visits
Historic Falls Mill

Nestled in a lush green cove along the banks of beautiful Factory Creek in southern Middle Tennessee, historic Falls Mill was the destination for more than three dozen Nashville Section members and guests on Saturday, September 18, 2010.  Built in 1873 as a cotton and woolen factory, the mill was later converted for use as a cotton gin, then as a woodworking shop. Today the water wheel powers millstones that grind cornmeal, flour, and grits.

Our hosts and tour guides were Jane and John Lovett who have made their home at the mill for many years.  Antique machinery related to the mill's history is exhibited on two floors of the building. The millstones, a printing press, and the ever-popular dog-powered butter churn are located on the first floor, while a country store and weaving room are on the second floor. Hand looms, spinning wheels, and a rare collection of 19th Century power looms and wool carding machines were on display to the delight of the Nashville Section.

Before leaving for the mill tour, the Nashville Section met at The Restaurant at Kelso, Tennessee, for lunch.  Nashville Section members Jon and Polly Bass arranged for a special meal that included the restaurant’s famous Double Barrel onion (finished with Tennessee whiskey), Tennessee “caviar” (black eyed peas) and a selection of desserts.
